Angel hair, how to avoid these

Angel hair is a very frequent problem plastic materials handling industry. The polyethylene and polypropylene granules and the technopolymers in general, tend to degrade when handled by pneumatic conveyors in the fluid phase. The high speed, friction and the heat generated lead to the formation of long filaments, the so-called angel hair which affect the quality of the entire production batch. This phenomenon appears along long routes, mainly at the bends and along the discontinuities of the joints. It is possible to carry out a treatment called Shot Peening, which increases the inner roughness of the piping, facilitating the bounce of the product and limiting the sliding friction. This is a costly treatment, is not easy to carry out, and does not guarantee complete elimination of the problem.

Plantech offers pneumatic conveying in the dense phase, using the dense phase technology and calibrated fluidisers along the line. Thanks to this solution it is possible to handle the product at low speed, drastically limiting the friction forces due to rubbing and the impact on the walls, obtaining the complete solution to the angel hair problem.
