In pneumatic conveying in dilute phase, the flow of air keeps the product in suspension as it flows along the piping; with the design parameters of the plant defined, the consumptions will be constant and directly proportional to the air flow. Pneumatic conveying in the dense phase at theoretical level uses less air during the conveying, but it is necessary to take into consideration several factors such as the high pressures in play, the pressurisation phases and the depressurisation of the propeller, the washing of the line with air if present and, in particular, the features of the fluidisation and the permeability of the product to be conveyed.

In general terms, we can say that the two systems have similar consumptions but it is not possible to give an absolute answer since evaluation must be done on a case by case basis.
